A Highlander's Homecoming - Melissa Mayhue - 2010

A Highlander's Homecoming - Melissa Mayhue

This is the third book I have read by Melissa Mayhue. I enjoy the fantasy and paranormal aspect of her romance novels. Her books are based on time travel between centuries and Faerie magic. Each book has adventure, fantasy and romance with a whole lot of very strong, honorable, chivalrous and very hot male Scottish Highlanders.

This book is based on the adventures of Robert MacQuarrie, a 13th century Scottish Highlander. He was transported to the 21st century to save his life from a deadly sword wound. He has lived in the 21st century for a number of years and has volunteered to return to his century as a Fae Guardian to protect a Fae named Leah. He also wants to return to his own time because of an oath he made to his dying friend to protect his friend's daughter. On return, instead of returning at the time he left, he was returned 20 years later and the friend's daughter is a grown woman. Isabella is a beautiful young woman with Fae magic abilities and Robert is attracted to her as she is to him. Their adventure together is interesting and compelling.
They eventually have their happily ever after but I will not give away any of the story.

It was an entertaining book and who doesn't like a happy ending! I will read more of her books.

Enjoy,

Kiss of Midnight - Lara Adrain - 2009

Kiss of Midnight - Lara Adrain

This book is from a series of books about the "Breed" race. The "Breed" race is a race of alien vampires. The race came to Earth near the beginning of time and have been responsible for the extinction of civilizations. The alien vampire race needs the protein from human blood to survive. They have been breeding with humans for hundreds of years. There are special female human 'breed mates' that have a signature birthmark. These females are genetically made to mate for life with the Breed Vampires and reproduction of the race can only occur through life mating with one of these females.

The book is based on the romance between Lucan and Gabrielle. Lucan is a Gen-One Breed who leads a group of Breed vampires who are trying to save the human race from "Rogue Vampires" who suffer from 'blood-lust'. The blood lust causes the breed to kill any and every human. Lucan sees Gabrielle at a club where she witness the Rogue vampires violently killing a human. Lucan is drawn to Gabby and swears to protect her when he finds out she is a Breed-mate.

I have read a bunch of books in this series. This book was a fast and interesting read.

I got it from the library and will pass it on.

Enjoy,

Dragonfly in Amber - Diana Gabaldon - 1992

Dragonfly in Amber - Diana Gabaldon

This is the second book by Diana Gabaldon in the Outlander series.

I am not disappointed in this book. The first book, Outlander was around 500 and some pages, this book, was around 750. I was not able to finish it in one day and would not have wanted to it was so good. Some books should be savored for no better word.

Ms. Gabaldon is a consummate novelist. I would liken her novels to Margaret Mitchell but that is my personal opinion. She has done a tremendous amount of research on the history of the periods and you feel transported into those times. Her verbiage is so descriptive that you can almost, see, hear, feel and taste what she is describing in her writing. The love story between Claire and Jaime is timeless.

This series is a must read for the person who wants a detailed and descriptive novel. It is woven with history, romance and paranormal activity.

I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

Enjoy,

Susan
