Where the Heart Leads - Stephanie Laurens - 2008

Where the Heart Leads - Stephanie Laurens

This is the first book that I have read by Stephanie Laurens.  It is from a series called 'The Casebook of Barnaby Adair.  The two main characters are Penelope Ashford and Barnaby Adair.  Penelope is from a weathy family and has decided to be her own woman, not marry and volunteers a lot of her time at an orphanage.  BArnaby Adair, also wealthy and a noble, solves many crimes as a hobby on the side.  He is so good that Scotland Yard usually goes to him for assistance.

Penelope decides to go to Barnaby to ask for his help as four orphans destined for the orphanage have disappeared.  Barnaby is intrigued by her boldness, beauty and intelligence.  They set out on an adventure together while trying to solved the disappearances.

The book was very detailed and it was a good book.  The characters had depth and the story line was believable and very detailed.  Barnaby and Penelope have a torrid love affair.  So, I had to ask myself, if all this was presented in the book, why was I skipping pages.  I normally do not do that!  I just could not get into the story.

Rating - 6
I bought the book.  I am not sure if I would read another of the series.

Enjoy,

Susan
